Summer is arguably the most important month when it comes to looking after our skin. Not only for sun-protection, but for the activities we participate in. From water-sports, swimming pools and beaches, the summer season means I am more inclined to ditch my makeup in favour of skincare. When going makeup- free, I focus on achieving clear, glowing and healthy looking skin. I also make sure to include SPF products within my routine, to ensure I am staying protected! In this blog post, I will be talking you through my morning and evening Summer Skincare Routine, step by step, including a selection of the best skincare products that Boots have to offer!
Morning: In the morning, I don’t typically do much of a cleanse, as I sleep with no makeup on. However, it is good practice to do a light cleanse, even just to wake up my face! I use something light, like a gel cleanser. I apply with water and rinse thoroughly.
Evening: Here is where my go-to cleanser’s get their chance to shine! After a long day working from home, a photoshoot or a run in the park, my face can definitely get a huge build up of makeup, SPF product and dirt. So in the evening, I cleanse thoroughly. I use products such as PIXI Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel or the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. I apply both of these to my dry skin and then rinse off with warm water and a cotton cloth. If I feel I need it, I will double cleanse for maximum effect!
Step Four - Moisturise
Morning: Moisturiser is how we lock in the serum we applied and add an extra, moisturising layer of protection for our skin from the outside world! For mornings, you should consider adding an SPF moisturiser to your routine; this is the perfect time to incorporate a sun protection product. I love the YourGoodSkin Anti-Oxidant Day Cream with SPF 30. Caudalie also do a great SPF facial cream that I also use. It is good to bare in mind how your make up (if you are planning to wear any) will apply on top of this cream. Your moisturiser should compliment your base makeup.
Bonus Step!
This step is a bonus one for those who are looking to achieve a glowy, “no makeup” look. I love this Skin Finish by Dior. When applied to the cheek bones, brow bones and cupids bow, it creates a wonderful, healthy finish to the skin - perfect for a day at the beach or under makeup for a subtle glow. It can also be applied to the body - perfect with a mini dress for summer evening look. Just apply to the collar bones, shoulders and legs!

Step Two - Tone
Morning + Evening: It Is important to tone your skin after cleansing. Toners can help close pores and tighten cell gaps, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin. I love the PIXI Glow Tonic or the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic. I apply these gently to my whole face using a soft, round pad. It is important to wait a few moments for the toner to absorb before continuing with your routine.
Step Three - Serum or Sheet Mask
Morning: In the morning, I won’t apply a mask, however, I will try my best to remember to apply a light serum (I often forget -oops!) My favourite light serums are watery in texture and don’t feel too heavy. For example, the PIXI Vitamin C serum.
Evening: In the evening, I will apply a more heavy duty serum such as this one from Boots - the Glow Essence Serum. The PIXI Glow Tonic Serum is also very similar. Both are great products for achieving a natural skin glow. I noticed a huge difference in my skin the next morning after using glow serums! I also use masks in the evening, about once a week. Sheet masks usually have a serum-type product built in, which you can gently work into the skin after the mask time has elapsed. If you use a mud, peel or exfoliating mask, you will still have to apply a serum afterwards.

Evening: My evening moisturiser tends to be thicker, and I usually keep it in my skincare fridge! I am currently rotating between Caudalie and Liz Earle moisturisers. Both have a thick, whipped consistency. I also use a PIXI under-eye cream at this point too.
Step Five - Mist
Morning: In the mornings, I use a wonderful Glow Mist by PIXI. Not only does it smell and feel amazing - the perfect end to my skincare routine, but it also leaves my skin with a dewy finish. I also learnt recently that is sets makeup!
Evening: In the evening, I use a basic vitamin E mist to refresh and hydrate my skin. I’m not sure if it does much, but it makes my face feel lovely and cool, so that’s good enough for me!
