9 Things to see, do and eat, in Amsterdam

This summer, I spent a lot of my time travelling, trying to cram in a few more adventures before starting a new full-time job. Amsterdam was one of the places I ended up, and not for the first time. I have been to Amsterdam four times before, but this time was a little different; we were staying with and being shown around by a local! This meant that I had not visited many of these places before and I loved how I felt like a local myself by the end of the trip! So I thought I would share this list with you, and maybe you'll feel like a local too.

12 Things to see, do and eat, in Amsterdam

1. Hutspot Photobooth
Van Woustraat 4, 1073 LL Amsterdam, Netherlands
I loved the impromptu stop at this photobooth! It is a traditional automat, developed as it would have been decades ago! This gives your photo a vintage-feel. You can choose between 2 backdrops - a beige curtain or a white wall, and it's only €3 for the strip!

2. Pluk
Reestraat 19, 1016 DM Amsterdam, Netherlands
Pluk was a lovely place to stop for coffee and cake. I love the Scandinavian interiors and tasty latte's. There are two Pluk's in the centre of Amsterdam, just walking distance from each other.

3. Polaberry
Prinsengracht 232 H, 1016 HE Amsterdam, Netherlands
Polaberry had been on my list of "instagrammable" things to do in Amsterdam, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The super-sweet unicorn cake pops were not only beautiful to look at, but they also tasted great too!

4. Van Stapele Koekmakerij
Heisteeg 4, 1012 WC Amsterdam, Netherlands
I can't believe I had never heard of this cookie shop until this trip! The queue was long, but moved quickly; full of tourists wanting to sample the famous Van Stapele cookies. This bakery sells just one product - a warm, double chocolate chip cookie. They are incredible. If you like cookies, you must visit this shop!

5. Moak Pancakes
Jodenbreestraat 144, 1011 NS Amsterdam, Netherlands
It is only right that we would have some pancakes whilst in Amsterdam. I loved Moak, not only for its extensive menu of sweet and savoury pancakes, but they also did tasty coffee and had great decor.

6. Wake Me Up When I'm Famous wall
Frans Halsstraat 64, 1072 BT Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We stumbled across this bench by total accident, though I had seen it many times on Instagram. So I couldn't say no to getting a snap on this LA-style mural wall.

7. Flora
Bilderdijkpark 1A, 1052 RZ Amsterdam, Netherlands
We took a tram to Bilderdijkpark, for margaritas and mexican tapas at Flora. I loved the atmosphere of this alfresco spot. Between 3 of us, we shared 3 plates of 3 tacos and a pot of sweet potato fries.

8. Happy Happy Joy Joy
Bilderdijkstraat 158HS, 1053 LC Amsterdam, Netherlands
I really loved the inside of this Asian-inspired restaurant. The menu was large and slightly pricey. I also found the portions of what I ordered, fairly small. However, I think that was partially due to my own ordering rather than the restaurant itself, so I'd be interested to go back and try it again!

9. Rudi's Stroopwafel
180 Albert Cuypstraat, 1073 BM,Amsterdam, Netherlands
We were recommended this stroopwafel truck by our host. You haven't tried proper Dutch stroopwafels until you have had a freshly made one! I think Rudi's is known as one of the best in Amsterdam! Be careful, the caramel is hot!
