14 Important Steps to Self-Love

Hey Guys,
With Valentines Day fast approaching, I wanted to write a post about the most important love you will ever encounter. It is the most powerful form of love and can ultimately be the root of a person's happiness. I am, of course, talking about self-love!
The journey to self-love is almost always a tough one. We are our own worst enemies and can often be more harm to ourselves than good. But with little baby-steps, I'm sure it can be easy to achieve with lots of practice!14 Important Steps to Self-Love
1. Get your days off to a good start. Whether that means setting 4 alarms, having a morning beauty routine, having a bit of a yoga sesh or making time for a good breakfast. Getting your day off to a good start will massively impact your mood and general wellness, as well as fuelling your body with positive, productive energy!
2. Speaking of fuel, eating and drinking well shows your body lots of love and it will appreciate it! That includes the odd sweet treat and takeaway ;)
3. Don’t believe everything you think. There is an inner critic inside all of us that can fuel negative thoughts and energy. Try distancing yourself from those thoughts and analysing situations from an outside perspective to gain a bit of clarity.
4. Surround yourself with people who love and encourage you. Let them remind you just how amazing you are. This includes end toxic relationships. Anyone who makes you feel anything less than amazing doesn’t deserve to be a part of your life. The flip side to this is make sure you are treating others with the same love and respect.
5. Stop comparing yourself/your journey to other's. We've all done it, scrolled through Instagram making conscious or subconscious comparisons with who we see on our feed. This is mentally draining and pointless! There is no one on this planet like you, so you cannot fairly compare yourself to someone else.
6. Celebrate your wins, no matter how big or small. Celebrating your success is something I think this generation find difficult. It is easy to jump from goal to goal, forgetting to celebrate your wins. Whether it was getting a load of housework done or publishing a best-selling novel, there is no reason not to give yourself a metaphorical pat on the back for all your achievements!
7. Embrace and love the things that make you different. Because those are the things that make you, you.
8. Take time to calm your mind every day. Some thoughts can be overwhelming and feel as if a hundred are floating around your mind at once! Some people call it meditating, but if that is intimidating, just set time aside (and away from tech) to check in with yourself and just breathe.9. Forgive yourself. There is always that nagging thought in the back of your head, reminding you of an awkward encounter, or a bad decision you made, or a regret you may have. You can’t change the things you have done in the past but you can control your future. Look at it as a learning experience and believe in your ability to change.
10. Give up the need for approval from others. As long as what you are doing is positive and making you happy, that's all that matters. Even your loved-ones have no say over what you choose to do.
11. Be realistic. No one is happy every single moment of every single day, because we are all human! We all make mistakes, we all feel emotions (good and bad) and it's completely normal. Allow yourself those highs and lows and try to enjoy the ride!
12. Get creative! It's proven that creative activities such as painting, writing or music can be huge stress relievers and also create a sense of ownership and achievement. Sounds good to me!
13. Find your happy place. Find the one place you feel calm, happy, positive. Go to that place when you are going through hard times, or imagine yourself being there. For me, it's in the arms of my partner, watching Netflix or Disneyland Paris!
14. Be patient but persistent. Self-love is a long, but rewarding road. It’s something that needs to be practiced daily but can take a lifetime to master. So be kind and support yourself through the hard times.
